Initial Hurdles in Personal Utopia
I am interested in getting to know about the scope of everything in achieving my own Personal Utopia. In that context, I am interested in knowing about the various concepts that I should know and hence I would like to chat. I am not using your services as a search engine. So, please do not provide me links to any material. Those links distract me and make me lose my focus. Are you ready?
Concepts in Personal Utopia
My interest is my own personal utopia. That is, answering the question "How to live a good life?" for myself. I am aware that I can live a life that is as good as it can possibly be for circumstances specific to me; but, I am trying to maximize my own goodness. With this focus in mind, how many concepts would I need to investigate in order to obtain sufficient level of information?
Give me a set of 50 concepts that you think will help any human get started in their journey of their personal utopia. Categorize those concepts into categories that make most sense. Also give me a one paragraph overview each concept.
Give me single paragraph description of the categories in which you categorized those concepts.
Dislike That
For each of the categories that you mentioned, a person could say that I do not like that category. What plausible reasons would such a person have? What would you say to the person to convince that person to pursue investigating concepts in that category.
For each of the specific concepts that you mentioned, a person could say that I do not like to investigate that particular concept. What plausible reasons would such a person have? What would you say to the person to convince that person to pursue investigating that concept.
Daunting or Overwhelming
To pursue one's personal utopia, one needs to investigate all these concepts. For knowing about and investigating these top-level 50 concepts, one needs to dive into the concepts related to each of those top-level concepts. Some people may find this kind of investigation and learning very daunting or overwhelming.
Clarify, for my better understanding, the meanings of the words daunting and overwhelming. Also tell about all other words with similar meanings.
What would you tell a person who is feeling daunted or overwhelmed by the prospect of investigating 50 concepts and their sub-concepts?
Handling the Daunting Situation
In the next several paragraphs I will tell you how I will address a person who is daunted by the prospect of learning 50 concepts related to personal utopia. You tell me if the idea presented in each one of these paragraphs makes sense.
In your entire life you have learned a lot of words, concepts and skills. For example, you have learnt to speak, identify things, animals, people; and distinguish between them. All that is, in fact, learning concepts. We are born with the full capacity to learn new things. For example, you already know how a dog looks and a cat looks. You know what kind of sounds they make. You can even create those sounds yourself. This is learning and knowing concepts. As we grow older, we have learned more complicated stuff. We have learned to count. We have learned to add, subtract, multiply, divide. We have learned how to find percentages. We have learned Newton's laws of motion. We have learned different states of matter which are solids, liquids and gases. Some might also say there is a 4th state called Plasma. We have learned to appreciate music, good acting. We have learned to identify and criticize bad acting. If you yourself think about all the possible things that you have learnt, You have certainly learned a lot more than 5000 different concepts. So, learning 50 new concepts and their sub-concepts is a much smaller task as compared to what you have already accomplished in life. Don't be daunted by the number of concepts.
If you feel daunted because these concepts seem "too abstract and confusing", then consider this: When you started as a baby, everything would seem strange and confusing. And yet, you managed to learn many things. As babies, we don't get to choose what we are exposed to, we learn whatever life has to offer. Now that we are adults, we can choose. When you choose to pursue your own personal utopia, you would get a much better life than what you would otherwise get. That reward itself is well worth learning those concepts. In reality, all these concepts are neither abstract nor confusing; you may be unfamiliar with them. Once you start investigating, you will get familiar with them and this feeling of them being abstract or confusing will vanish.
If you are feeling daunted by the amount of effort that you feel is required to learn these concepts, then consider this: Without studying, learning, and taking the effort, there are only very few ways in which you can get the best possible life that you possibly can; and even those ways depend on an immense amount of luck. This one is in your control, it is not a matter of luck. If you put in the effort to know about all these concepts, understand them, practice them and master them, then the reward you will get is of a significantly larger consequence than the required effort - however large the effort may initially seem.
It is OK to be apprehensive to start; we humans are not reckless. Apprehension is the way our caution with unfamiliar things expresses itself. It is OK to examine these concepts; because the outcome is very good. Yielding to this apprehension will make you miss out on your best possible life. Throughout our education we have learnt to learn the unfamiliar. The idea of personal utopia is not just another idea; it is a worth pursuing idea. Ignore the apprehension; start learning about personal utopia and utopia.
If you are unsure of your ability to learn new things, then consider this: It is just like when you were a little kid learning words when you didn't know a single word. If you could do it when you were a baby or a toddler, you certainly can do it now that you are grown up. Remember that when you were born, you didn't know what a dog was and a cat was, but now you clearly know the difference. Every additional piece of knowledge that you have gained has made you more capable. You are simply continuing to use your in-born ability to learn.
We are not talking about discovering or inventing personal utopia. We are simply discussing about learning it. You don't have to discover it. It's already been thought about and written about for over two thousand years. You just have to find the right source and learn from it. Just imagine this, Newton discovered the laws of motion that are named after him. Einstein discovered the theory of relativity. Learning things which are already well known and well documented is significantly simpler than discovering these kinds of things. So your job is already an easy one. We can have an easy time walking a path because someone else has paved the path for us; All we have to do is walk on it.
Moreover, these days you have help from AI. You can simply ask a question about some concept that you don't understand. You can ask more questions to make sure that you understand different nuances of it. Learning new things these days has gotten significantly easier than in the past. If we can see farther and clearer, it is because we stand on the shoulders of giants with binoculars in our hands.
And remember, all learning happens one concept at a time. You're not learning 50 things all at once. So take your time; investigate one thing every single day. You will find that as you learn about more things, it gets easier.
What I have said about learning concepts related to personal utopia applies to learning any kinds of new concepts in any subject. All you have to do is replace the words personal utopia with whatever the name of the subject is. Everything I said about personal utopia applies to that subject as well. So don't be daunted by learning new things. It's OK. It's normal. It's the normal human capability.
So, write down the 5 concepts discussed earlier that most appeal to you. Then investigate them in any order you prefer. Then think of what you would like to explore next; and explore it. Continue this journey and you will know when you have learnt sufficient number of concepts to start shaping your life to be much better than it is today. Go forth and explore; success awaits you.
